Gaspar Melchor de Jovellanos, desde su cargo ministerial en la corte española, mandó proveer fondos para la publicación de tales hallazgos en 4 volúmenes (Flora peruviana et chilensis, 1798-1802). Y, agradecidos, los expedicionarios otorgaron su nombre a este género, del que se cuentan otras dos especies más en Nueva Zelanda.
Hipólito Ruiz and José Antonio Pavón, eighteenth-century botanic explorers, studied, collected and classified the flora of Chile and Peru. Many of those plants, until then unknown in Europe, given names. And among them, the Jovellana punctata and Jovellana violacea, endemic in the central regions of Chile.
Gaspar Melchor de Jovellanos, from his ministerial position in the Spanish court, ordered to provide funds for the publication of their findings in 4 volumes ( Flora peruviana et chilensis , 1798-1802 ). And, grateful, Ruiz and Pavón gave the name of Jovellana to this genus of plants, which include two more species located in New Zealand.
Con motivo del bicentenario de Jovellanos, desde el Ayuntamiento de Gijón se me encargaron dos ilustraciones botánicas que representasen ambas especies.
Su difusión se ha concretado en la edición de láminas, marcapáginas, dípticos e imanes de nevera, así como su presencia en diversas publicaciones.

To commemorate the bicentenary of the death of Jovellanos, the City Council of Gijón (Jovellanos was born at this city), commissioned me to create these botanic illustrations, which represents both species.
With them have been made A4 prints, bookmarks, fridge magnets..., and its presence in various publications.
