Arfueyu

"[...] who lives in the dark nights of the dark forests of the Asturian mountain. Although he transits paths and wading gullies with great agility throughout the year, he becomes more easily visible at dusk near the winter solstice, thanks to the lantern he carries. Old man, rough ranger, long white beard, cunning and more agile than a bobcat. Sullen character, he becomes more sociable at this time of year and even stray passers assists.

He dresses burlap tunic and pants wide leathery, according to some, or coarse linen, as others; red sash, gaiters of lamb tied with rope and wooden clogs. His long hair rises two feet above his head and falls on his chest and back, being formed by a tangle of mistletoe and hard and stiff hairs that look more like dried oak branches. He carries a cane unrefined high, which is not nothing but a branch of chestnut tree, from which hangs a lantern that has never been seen off.

He is a positive being with uncertain origin, as is often the case with the mythological cast. Some authors attribute this to the influence of the Roman pantheon on certain natural figures of the Celtic tradition. Others seek their roots in different Central and North European ethnicities whose influence would come to this land [...] in VIII and IX centuries, through trade and political ties between the Asturian Kingdom and the Charlemagne's empire."

Sofía called me one morning, she knew me by reputation. She wanted to turn her hobby into a profession and had every thrust, ideas and knowledge, providers and teachers. She just needed to dress up her project with a name and graphic identity. Her store must be special: a place to meet and share, attend classes and patchwork sessions, enjoy a cup of tea and chat. All that warmth should be transmitted from the name itself and from its graphic identity.

The calico (in french language, calicot) is an Indian fabric of ancient tradition, usually decorated with floral motifs. A very appropriate name to show to the public the warmth of Sofia project.

The anagram development pursues the same goal, working with a studied chromatic range and a main typeface specifically modeled after manual features that also help to enhance the activity of quilting in which Calico is a pioneer shop in Asturias. The development consisted in advising Sofía and creating the name, logo, applications (stationery, signage outside) and web design.

One of the most interesting assignments that can be addressed as a graphic designer is to create identity. A difficult task, no doubt. Desguaces Oviedo (Oviedo Scrapping), longtime company in Asturias and reference in its sector, has confided in my role as a graphic designer in order to update its corporate identity.

Create illusion and keeping the magic alive in the minds of others is a magical art in its essence. It is like share a part of your soul with the people. Día Mundial de las Aves 2012 / 2012 World Bird Day

La colmena viajera - zoom interactivo / The travelling beehive - interactive zoom

Todo por la patria, querida / All for the Fatherland, my dear

Rebellious irony and humor, pre-war poster flavor, color symbolism, nightlife in the heat of the music of a pub ...

All for the Fatherland, my dear is a different show: a communicator (Pachi Poncela) and one actress (Olga Cuervo) meet in a casual encounter. Life, people, problems, politics and society, the divine and human ... rebellious irony, fine and intelligent, in a show conceived, rather than none, for fun and, between laughs, think a bit. And all entertained by live music of the "umpire" (David Varela), which also cause hilarious misunderstandings.

Volumen ilustrado - I Certamen de Cuentos sobre Medio Ambiente / 1st Contest of Stories about the Environment - Illustrated book

The main event of World Environment Day in Gijón is the awards ceremony and presentation of the picture book compilation of the 1st Contest of Stories about the Environment, organized by the city council.

A very carefully edited book (23.5 x 22 cm, hardcover, 132 pages + fly leaves) that contains the 21 winning tales, divided into five categories according to the age of the participants.

Categoría A: Primer Ciclo de Educación Primaria
Category A: First Stage of Primary Education

Categoría B: Segundo Ciclo de Educación Primaria
Category B: Second Stage of Primary Education

Categoría C: Tercer Ciclo de Educación Primaria
Category C: Third Stage of Primary Education

Categoría D: Educación Secundaria Obligatoria
Category D: Secondary Education (High School)

Categoría E: Bachillerato y Formación Profesional
Category E: Baccalaureate and Technical Training

I took the opportunity to enjoy with traditional technics of illustration (watercolor and graphite) combined with digital processing. The result is a stylistic evolution from the early primary education categories, where there is more dissociation between form and color, up to Baccalaureate and Technical Training courses, where the corporeality of the elements becomes more present. Thus, as the age of the winners evolves, I try to shift the perception of the book by the reader.
